At a tense Senate hearing, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. defended President Trump's claim that prescription costs plunged by as much as 600% — prompting sharp questions from senators and a flood of scrutiny. Read on to discover the full story!

The hearing showdown

On April 22, Sen. Elizabeth Warren pressed RFK Jr. about Trump's repeated boasts that drug prices fell by “50, 60, 70” up to “600%.” Kennedy replied that the president simply has "a different way of calculating," even offering the example that a $600 drug reduced to $10 equals a 600% cut.

Math vs. the message

But the math tells a different story: dropping from $600 to $10 is about a 98% decrease, while a 600% decrease would imply negative pricing. Trump has variously claimed reductions of 50–90% and at times framed figures as 400–700%, language that drew pushback at the hearing.
