Mary Tyler Moore

Moore was mother to one son, Richard 'Richie' Meeker Jr., who had a small role on her show. Richie died at 24 from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot in October 1980; Moore later spoke about her grief and advocated for gun reform. She died in 2017 at 80.

Ed Asner

Asner, best known as Lou Grant, had four children: Matthew, Liza, Kate and Charles. His youngest was diagnosed with autism, inspiring his advocacy and the Ed Asner Family Center. Asner died in August 2021.

Gavin MacLeod

MacLeod, who played Murray Slaughter, fathered four children — Keith, David, Julie and Meghan — and said he shaped his character with a paternal warmth. He died in May 2021 at 90.
